Beautiful Butterfly Birthday Card

For today’s card I pulled out two of my favourite stamp sets from the annual catalogue Butterfly Basics and Touches of Texture which I think sometimes get neglected at this time of year when we have a new catalogue full of goodies to play with. Touches of Texture is one of our more expensive sets so its perfect one to add to your starter kit as one of the two extra stamp sets you get for Sale-A-Bration.

I wanted a vintage feeling card so went with a colour scheme of Crumb cake, Blushing Bride, Soft Suede and Very Vanilla.

One of my favourite stamps from these two sets is the big splotch stamp from Touches of Texture, its a great one for creating a quick stamped background.

To finish the card I added  the smaller detailed butterfly from the Butterflies Thinlits die set.

Here’s a look at the inside, where I have just added a little fern detail to one corner.

Vintage Butterfly Easel Card

Hi Everyone,

How are you today? I’m so glad its a bit cooler at last as I don’t function well in heat at all. I’ve not got a Floral Friday post today but I have got this gorgeous Vintage Butterfly Easel card. As soon as I saw the Background Bits Hostess set in the catalogue I knew this was a card I wanted to make and I can’t wait to share it with you any longer.

As you may know if you’re a regular reader it’s not often I venture into vintage, distressed, shabby chic style cards as I don’t seem to pull the look off very well but I’m so pleased with how this turned out.

To create a basic easel card take a piece of card measuring 28cm x 10.5cm. Score it at 14cm and at 21cm. Fold in half at 14cm and then fold  at 21cm to create the triangle shape you can kind of see above. Next cut an extra piece of card 14.5cm x 10.5 cm and this is used as your card front. Then create a strip of card 10.5 x 2.5cm to use as your stopper.

To create the front of the card I took a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock measuring 14cm x 10cm and randomly stamped the script stamp and the background swirl pattern all over in Crumb Cake. My Crumb Cake ink pad desperately needs re-inking so if yours is juicy you might want to stamp off one on scrap paper before each stamp. I then took a sponge and sponged and blended Crumb cake ink all over to create that vintage look.

For some added detail I took the flower head type stamp and my Fresh Fig ink which I stamped off once on scrap paper and randomly created a pattern. To finish my background I stamped the flower stems all in a row along the bottom.

For the greeting panel I took a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock measuring 10cm x 5cm and repeated the above process. Instead of Fresh Fig flowers I stamped the Happy Birthday greeting from Happy Birthday Gorgeous.

I then adhered these two panel to my card base. To finish off the stopper piece I took a strip of Very Vanilla measuring 10.5cm x 2cm and sponged over it in Crumb Cake ink. I then took the border stamp from Background Bits and stamped it in Fresh Fig. To stick the stopper to your card your can use foam strips or do what I did and use the edges off the new Mini Stampin Dimensional’s as these were the perfect width.

To finish off the card  I die cut the largest butterfly from the Butterfly Thinlits and adhered this with Fine-tip glue.

The Background Bits stamp set is only available as a hostess so you will need to place an order over £150.00. If you can stretch to a £300.00 order then this month Stampin’ up! are giving £30 extra in hostess freebies, so that’s at least £60.00 in free product. Perfect is your new catalogue wish-list is huge like mine.

Hope you’ve enjoyed today’s project and pop back soon.

Introducing the new In-Colours

May is my favourite month in the Stampin’ Up! calendar and is when being a demonstrator really is the most fun. During May we have the retiring list which brings out the need in me to clear out the cupboards and that’s when you find those hidden gems which you’d forgot you bought but absolutely love, which brings on a whole wave of creativity. BUT that is not the best part, the best part is the pre-order list and being able to see the catalogue a month early (its amazing). The pre-order list means we can order a selection of products early and always (or has done as long as I remember) included the brand new in-colours and this to me is absolute heaven when that box of new coloured goodies arrives on the doorstep. This year we have five amazing new colours which I’m sure you’re going to love as much as I do. I’m sure you’ve seen three of them in the Eastern Palace Suite but here is a picture of all five together…lush.

These cards were super quick to make and use a combination of retiring products, staying products and new products. The background paper come from the Irresistibly Floral dsp paper which is sadly retiring, but currently still available to purchase. I just used the aqua painter and the new in-colour inks to create a wash over the top and just embellished with a simple butterfly cut from the Butterflies Thinlits dies. Now lets take a closer look at each card.

tranquiltideintrocard

This card features Tranquil Tide which is a gorgeous rich green which is darker than Emerald Envy and a greener version of Island Indigo. I can see myself using this colour lot as its a shade of green  I’ve being longing for.

lemonlimetwistintrocard

This card features Lemon Lime Twist which is quite unlike any other colour in the Stampin’ Up range. It’s an almost neon its so bright ( much brighter than in the photo) and I think it will look gorgeous paired up with black and any of our pinks.

powderpinkintrocard

This card features Powder Pink, yes it is very similar to Pink Pirouette and Blushing Bride but it works beautifully alongside both colours and is the perfect baby pink colour.

berryburstintrocard

This card features Berry Burst which is a lovely Magenta colour with a similar brightness to Lemon Lime Twist I can see this working well with many of our colours as its has just a bit more zing than Melon Mambo or Rose Red.

freshfigintrocard

This final card features Fresh Fig which I think is my favourite colour. It’s a lighter version to Blackberry Bliss which I loved but did find a little too dark for some projects. Fresh Fig for me is the perfect purple and I’m already wishing I’d ordered more in my pre-order.

If you think you’d like to get your hands on these products earlier than June 1st then I’d  love you to join my team and then you too can order from our pre-order list and enjoy these wonderful products a little early.

Thanks for stopping by.
