Bokeh Background card for #TGIFC113

Hi everyone,

Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend, we’ve trimmed some trees in the garden so I’ve now got a bit more light in the garden. Talking of light, this week challenge over at TGIF Challenges was to used the Bokeh techinique, which is an out of focus photography lighting effect. I was a bit stumped on quite how to do this at first but am quite pleased with the results. What do you think?

To make the background I took some watercolour paper and then misted all over with water. I then took my aqua painter and some Blushing Bride re-inker and created a wash all over the card.

I then made a circle template using some window sheet and the circle punches in sizes 1 3/8″, 1 1/4″ and 3/4″. With the 1 3/8″ template I sponged some Peekaboo Peach in a random pattern all over. Next I took the 1 1/4″ template and sponged with Flirty Flamingo, I made sure that these circles all over lapped the previous ones.

I then took the 3/4″ template and Calypso Coral and added some overlapping circles and some randomly on their own. I found the finished background a little bright for the effect I wanted so I dulled it down a little by adding a layer of vellum.

I added some of the Calypso Coral Ombre ribbon across the centre and adhered the whole panel to a Calypso Coral card base.

To finish the card off I just added a water coloured kitty from Pretty Kitty mounted onto circles die cut from the Layering Circles Dies.

I love the how delicate this ended up looking. What do you think? Fancy having a go at this challenge yourself them head over to the TGIF Challenges blog for more details.

Thanks for popping by.

Masculine Birthday Card with Eastern Beauty stamp set

Today’s card was inspired by challenge #089 over at Global Design Project which was to use the colours Basic Black, Old Olive and Calypso Coral, sadly I didn’t manage to enter as I struggled with this combo but here is my card:

I really didn’t want to make a floral card so it took me a while to come up with an idea and it was Eastern Beauty to the rescue. I just started stamping and came up with this pattern.

I used the new Ticket Tear Boarder punch to an interesting edge to the stamped panel and I used the Old Olive ombre paper from the Colour Theory DSP stack as a background on the Basic Black card base.

The greeting comes from the Rose Wonder stamp set and was cut out with the Rose Garden Framelits.

Daisy Delight Notecards

Following on from yesterday’s post I decided to make a set of notecards to fit in my cute little bag. I love how easy these were to create, just a few quick layers and a touch of stamping and you have a lovely set of notecards which would make a lovely gift.

I chose to use the same die combination as yesterday to help tie the two projects together (the largest stitched shape square and second largest scalloped square) but decided to use the smaller daisy stamps as the large stamp felt too big against this gorgeous paper.

I stamped the daisy outlines first in Calypso Coral and Night of Navy and then to fill in I stamped off the colour once on scrap paper. I love how the inside part of the daisy is slightly bigger which means when you cut them out they still look great.

The Daisy Delight stamp set and everything from the new catalogue will be available to purchase tomorrow…yay!

Floral Friday – Oh So Succulent Birthday Card

succulentcard1.jpg

Today its the birthday of one of my best friends and to celebrate I made her this card, I hope she has received it before she reads this. I chose to use the new Oh So Succulent bundle  from the new Spring/Summer catalogue. The stamps and dies have a mixture of combinations which can be used to make flowers and other succulent plants along with some greetings in two lovely fonts.

I stuck to a colour combination of Mint Macaron, Sweet Sugarplum, Calypso Coral with a hint of Tip Top Taupe to match with the co-ordinating Succulent Garden dsp. Calypso Coral is not one of my favourite colours as I’m just not an orange/peach kind of girl but in small doses I think it looks okay. Here is a close up of the flowers

I’ve added some enamel shapes just to finish the card off and keep it fairly flat  for posting. I’m looking forward to playing some more with this versatile new set.
